Day 01:
Arrival at Paro airport; meeting & assistance on arrival and transfer to the hotel. Check in to hotel; rest & lunch. Afternoon visit Taa Dzong, the National museum of Bhutan; Rimpong Dzong visit Paro town. Evening at leisure in town. Overnight Hotel Jigmiling
Day 02:
Full day excursion to Takshang Monastery; lunch at Takshang cafeteria. Afternoon visit Kichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred monasteries in Bhutan; visit the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong & way back visit a Bhutanese traditional House. Overnight Hotel Jigmiling
Day 03:
Paro - Shana
Trek begins from Drukgyel Dzong; it goes upstream along Paro Chu (river), through villages, gradually ascending to 2,580 m at Shana camp. Distance: 17 km; walking time 5/6 hour
Day 04:
Shana - Soi Thangthangka
The trail again follows Pa Chu (Paro river), ascending and descending through pine, oak and spruce forests across Jigme Dorji Wangchuk National Park. After lunch follow the river climbing up through rhododendron forests and finally crossing the bridge again, reaching to the campsite at an altitude of 3,750 m. Distance: 21 km; walking time 8/9 hours.
Day 05:
Soi Thangthangka - Jangothang
The path ascends for a while till you reach the army camp; then follow the river above the tree line enjoying the stunning view of the surrounding peaks. Hot lunch will be served inside a yak herder’s camp. A short walk into the valley will take you to the camp at Jangothang at an altitude of 4,040 m. View of Mt. Jumolhari and Jichu Drake are superb from this point. Distance: 15 km; walking time: 5 - 6 hrs.
(You should check yourself, if you have acclimatized with the high altitude; if you are not comfortable with the altitude, you should discuss with guide to continue beyond this point).
Day 06:
Jangothang - Lingshi
The trail follows the stream for half an hour and crosses the bridge to the right side, starting to climb up to the first ridge with a breathtaking view of Mt.Jumolhari, Mt.Jichu Drake and Mt.Tsrimghang. Then walk towards the valley, almost flat for a while, until you climb to Nyele la pass at an altitude of 4,700 Mtrs. Crossing the pass, it’s gradual descent to the Lingshi camp site, enjoying the panoramic view of the peaks and Lingshi Dzong. Camp at the altitude of 4000 Mtrs; Distance: 18 km; walking time 7/8 hours.
Day 07:
Lingshi - Shodu
The path follows the stream up towards the valley opposite the Dzong, gradually ascending through the valley for about four hours until the stiff climb at the pass. After the pass it is a long and gradual descent to the Shodu camp site at an altitude of 3,750 Mtrs; Distance: 22 km; walking time 8/9 hours.
Day 08:
Shodu - Barshong
At this place, one comes back to tree line. The path follows Thimphu River, descending through rhododendron, juniper and other alpine forests. The view of the cliff facing rocks and waterfalls is stunning. After lunch, the trail gradually ascends to the ruins of Barshong Dzong, reaching the camp site at an altitude of 3,600 Mtrs; Distance: 16 km; walking time 6/7 hours.
Day 09:
Barshong - Dolam Kencho
The route descends through alpine forests and once again joins Thimphu River for a while. After lunch climb up to Dolam Kencho; camp at the altitude of 3,600 Mtrs; Distance: 15 km; walking time 5/6 hours.
Day 10:
Dolam Kencho - Dodina - Thimphu
The path descends through bamboo forests all the way to Dolam Kencho, finally joining Thimphu river again. Distance: 8 kms; walking time: 3 hrs. Arrive at Dodina road head and drive to Thimphu. Check into hotel. Evening at leisure in town. Overnight Hotel Pedling
Day 11:
Full Day Sightseeing
Zilukha Nunnery (Dup-Thop Monastery), Changangkha Monastery, Takkin (national animal of Bhutan) preservation center, Sangyegang View point for view of Thimphu valley, Memorial Chorten, Handicrafts Emporium, Indigenous Hospital, Zorig Chosum (painting school), National Library, Folk Heritage Museum, Textiles Museum, Bhutanese Hand Made Paper factory and view of Tashichhodzong. Evening, drive to Punakha, crossing Dochula Pass alt. 3050 Mtrs. Overnight Miri Phinsum Resort
Day 12: Sightseeing of Punakha Dzong, Khamsum Yulley Chorten, Khuru town; Chhimi Lhakhang (a pilgrimage site for barren couple); visit Wangduephodrang – Wangduephodrang Dzong & town. After lunch drive back to Paro. Overnight Hotel Jigmiling
